A couple stories from the field:

We worked with a large public company whose CEO was told by his Board of Directors to team with me. He didn’t feel that we could bring him any value so he partnered me with the VP of QA. I couldn’t have been happier. As we toured the facility, I asked the VP what he was most proud of. He immediately told me he and his team measured over 3,000 items daily. He showed me his report. I asked him so else besides his team got the report. Everyone, VP and above was his answer. During my first week, I asked every VP if they received the report. Of course, they said yes, but no one could tell me anything that was in it nor did they provide it to anyone else in their department. 

 

As we walked I saw a rigger pulling together two very large sections. I asked how long it took to complete that task. He just laughed, sometimes two weeks sometimes six. I asked him why it didn’t take 15 minutes because the two large sections were on rails and should truly just slide together. Interference. All designs were done by hand. Today this company has eliminated over 1000 employees and uses graphic modeling and technology resulting in these sections coming together in less than 5 minutes.
